The animal hairstyling of Nagi Noda

Posted by Vodka Cruiser

The design crowd loves to shock with the weird and wonderful and these dos from Nagi Noda are no exception. This eccentric art director is known for pushing the envelope, and has worked on a wide variety projects from pop-art to music video direction for the Scissor Sisters and Tiga.

This menagerie of all our fav cuddly creatures was constructed using individually crafted hair weaves. Next best thing to a puppy? Hmmm…. we have a feeling that these styles would be more high-maintenance than a live one!

The Golden, and not so, at the Globes

Posted by Vodka Cruiser

Despite the outrageous lack of Aussie wins at the Golden Globes, with our own Jacqui Weaver and Geoffrey Rush being scandalously passed over: Biased? Who us? We want to pay homage to a few of the jaw-dropping ensembles seen strutting down the red carpet.

Mad Men star January Jones has done it again, this time with a red hot Versace fringe dress. Jaw-droppingly sexy and with skin on display in the classiest of ways, this one is pure WOW factor. Read more

Bicycle Chic

Posted by Vodka Cruiser

It turns out that one of the hottest, must-have accessories for this year is the humble bicycle. Lately every model, It girl, fashionista and their dog have started peddling their way across town, and looking good while doing it. Push bikes are no longer just for the super sporty in fluoro lycra, but have become a platform for hipsters to display their up-to-the minute looks.

The style is effortless, relaxed and carefree. It’s about lovely pannier bags, floaty dresses and strappy sandals, all tied together with a cute vintage bike. With fashion icons like Chloe Sevigny, Agyness Deyn and Lily Cole jumping on the bike train, the trend is hard to ignore. Read more

Fashion Forecast – Tail Hems

Posted by Vodka Cruiser

Our first fashion blog for 2011, and the word is Tail Hems.

A what? Yes a tail hem, shorter on the sides, with a longer ‘tail’ at the back. In 2011 the trend is more than just a shirttail hem, however: it’s any manner of dresses, skirts or tops that have a hem.

Shirttail hem, tapered hem, cutaway hem… whatever you wish to label it, the basic fact remains: tail hems have made their way into our trend bibles, and features as a major 2011 fashion trend. These hems fill the void between mini and midi; or between midi and maxi. They cover, yet have a hint of playfulness – party at the front, business at the back! And they’re a simple way to freshen up your 2011 wardrobe with a look that’s very “now”. Read more

In 2011 Cruiser solemnly swears to….

Posted by Vodka Cruiser

After much soul searching about the year gone by, we finally narrowed down our top four resolutions. Here are our must, and must-not dos of 2011;

Give our hair a break

Drying, straightening, curling, extensions – we put our locks through the wringer daily, and expect it to stay healthy and glossy at all times! Well, this year we (along with our overworked follicles), have decided it’s time for some serious hair TLC. Rock natural beach hair this summer that hasn’t been touched by a styling wand, and back it up with some intensive hair treatments. We like Redken’s All Soft super treatment for dry and brittle hair. 2010 has been the year of the ‘It’ girls. These ladies not only grace the pages of glossy mags the world over but also get invites to the hottest parties, sport trends just before they become trendy and have ultra cute beaus to boot. Who are they and why are they famous? Who knows! What we do want to know is where did they get those amazing Valentino shoes?

When it comes to It girls, there is definitely one who reigns supreme. Alexa Chung is the stunning British model and TV presenter who has the paparazzi falling over themselves to catch her latest outfit. Known for her simple yet quirky style and ability to seamlessly blend street fashion and designer pieces, this gorgeous Brit has some serious fashion cred. She has even had a Mulberry bag named in her honour! Read more

The bare midriff comeback

Posted by Vodka Cruiser

Ahh fashion! Just when you thought a trend was dead and buried….. BAM! There it is, front and centre on this season’s runway. Remember that bare midriff look circa 1994? The very look that featured in shows like Melrose Place and Beverly Hills: 90210? Well it’s back, and set to be a fashion-hit this summer. From slouchy cropped tees to girly cropped bustiers, the exposed middle is popping up in look books everywhere and despite the fashion crimes of the 90′s when it comes to waistlines, skin is in.

Sure, a toned stomach is a handy asset when it comes to this look but before rushing off to order the Ab Circle Pro do a little research – there are plenty of ways to make this summer trend work for you. To tone down the skin factor, keep it smart and chic. Coupled with a high-waisted bottom half, a cropped tee makes for a vintage yet up-to-date look that only hints at bare flesh. To finish the look, layer it up with necklaces and a blazer. Read more

Hot Trend: Geek Chic

This look is all about channelling your inner librarian – lace up shoes, high collared necklines, satchels and of course the staple… thick black rimmed glasses. With Hollywood A-listers everywhere flaunting geek chic, it’s no surprise that this trend is gaining momentum.
